In the Republic of Niger we have submitted a proposal for three solar PV Plants totalling 60 Mw. This project fits in the electrification strategy of Nigerien government. The present-day current access rate is about 15% (62% in urban areas versus 4% in rural areas), but the government has set ambitious goals to achieve 60% access by 2027 and complete access by 2035. Currently there is an installed capacity of about 140 MW produced mostly with diesel (43%) and coal (57%). The general purpose of IIDG in this project is to invest in three solar projects at the power plants of Gorou Banda, Dosso and Maradi. By doing this, a hybrid power plant can be created which produces an important fraction of the electricity in a sustainable way.
For this project, IIDG works together with ENCON, a renowned Belgian sustainable energy consultant.
